Morning Prayer

Lord, guide us with the law of your Spirit.

We so often fumble around, following the law of the flesh, of cynicism…of greed…of apathy…of empty busy-ness for the sake of making ourselves feel more important…of lust…of shame…of immature selfishness.

So guide us with the law of your Spirit…
For the law of your Spirit is life!

Give us the life of your Spirit, as we care for those hurting in the midst of a long summer of need… For those who receive care through the gifts of One Great Hour of Sharing offering…for those individuals and families who find greater need as the summer utility bills climb…for those families who feel the loss of food assistance while our schools are out of session…for those families who are on their way to us right now today for Family Promise and for their continuing needs…for all those in need, may we be the hands and feet of your Spirit of life.

Give us the life of your Spirit, as we share our presence and our servant’s gifts with the community at the Sidewalk Sale this week. May our presence and our voices and our smiling faces and our popsicles be representations of your Spirit of life.

Give us the life of your Spirit, as we send Nancy Bonner as our representative to justice ministry training this week. As we discern how we as a church will participate in this shared ministry together, may we seek to learn through Nancy how best to participate as a church.

Give us the life of your Spirit, as we send Pastor Meredith to a new place and a new ministry in Kansas City today. May she go with our love and our prayers, our support and our encouragement. Give her new life – the new life of your Spirit – as she follows your call. Meanwhile, in our sending, give us new life that we may continue to follow your call for us and for our ministries and identity.

Give us life, and guide us with the law of your Spirit.
And set our minds on the things of the Spirit…
On hospitality.
On service.
On justice.
On unity.

And on the life and teachings of the One in whose name we pray…
