Earthworks Team Purple Movie Discussion

March 25 @ 7:00 pm 8:00 pm CDT

Let’s watch a movie instead of reading a book this month! Watch Beasts of the Southern Wild, and come join us on Zoom to talk about it.

The plan for March was originally to discuss a book on mass extinctions by Peter Brannen. But we’re calling an audible. We will get back to Brannen (don’t worry if you have already started reading it), but the time might be right to do something a little different.

At our discussion last time, we brought up the movie Beasts of the Southern Wild. A 2012 film, it weaves together fantasy and drama climate change in ways that have impressed and astounded critics.  Quvenzhane Wells, only 9 years old at the time, was the youngest ever nominee for Best Actress Oscar. The movie is rated PG-13 and is about an hour and a half long. Watch it before the meeting; it is on several streaming services, and it is available on DVD at the library. Then, we will discuss together. Look for themes of climate change and the role of spirituality in the film.
