SUMMARY:Ukrainian Art Workshop with Zoriana Lylo-Otkovych
DESCRIPTION:Note: Limited space still available! Contact Pastor Cristina directly ASAP to sign up! Participants will be able to pick between doing a Tree of Life or Wild Animal design (both pictured). Both designs are based on traditional Ukrainian art and Zoriana will teach about Ukrainian culture throughout the workshop. Using templates and with the instructor’s direction\, participants will create a design on paper\, then trace the design onto glass in permanent marker\, and lastly they will paint their artwork using colorful acrylics. The result will be a beautiful piece of art that will look like it came from a coloring book! \n\n\n\nAbout the Instructor\n\n\n\nZorіana Lylo-Otkovych is from Lviv\, Ukraine. She studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv (Ukraine)\, Department of Art History. Balancing on the edge of graphics\, decorative and applied arts\, she creates unique products that resonate with folk art. As a graphic artist\, Zorinana likes to experiment with mixed mediums and use bright color schemes. She is the founder of her art studio “Zoriana KoloArt\,” where she teaches art and art therapy to adults and children.

Or really\, just show up a little before 10a on Saturday and look mildly enthusiastic\, and they’ll find you a spot! SUMMARY:Earthworks Team Purple Talk: Safer Passages for Migrating Birds with Krystal Anton
DESCRIPTION:Learn how you can help migratory birds make their journey safer! Johnson County Community College’s Krystal Anton will speak about their bird strike study and lessons learned from it over the last seven years. This talk will also cover the effects of light pollution and how it is related to window strikes and the health of birds\, as well as ways you can mitigate these issues at home and work. Join us in person in the Sojourners Room or on Zoom (request link here). \n\n\n\nSince 2015\, Krystal Anton has been the Zero Waste Coordinator in The Center for Sustainability at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park\, Kansas. Krystal oversees a staff of interns who operate the onsite food waste composting program\, and all specialty recycling programs. She also educates and supports departments and staff across campus to implement sustainable practices in their daily work life. \n\n\n\nAfter noticing several dead birds on campus\, Krystal designed a formal bird window strike study for the campus in 2018 and implemented ongoing mitigation starting in 2019. The study continues to monitor bird collisions every year. \n\n\n\nShe has held various presentations for Audubon associations\, the Johnson County Sierra Club\, other universities and more\, and earlier this month\, she taught a class\, Bird-Friendly Built Environments: Preventing Bird Deaths Through Design\, at Nooniversity for the American Institute of Architects Kansas City.
