Join members of Team Blue as we roll down the (paved) roads together for the Lawrence Bike Club’s annual Lizard Under the Skillet ride!
Why the name? As you may know, July is hot in Kansas. “Hot? It was so hot I watched a lizard crawl into the campfire just to get in the shade of the skillet.”
You can register for the ride on the LBC website here. If you want a t-shirt (and they look pretty cool—or hot?—this year!) you’ll need to register by June 27 and pay an extra $15. And contact Susan Pauls from Team Blue to let her know you plan to ride!
LBC members: $35 ($45 with t-shirt)
Non-LBC members: $40 ($55 with t-shirt)
The LBC site says routes are still subject to change, but they “anticipate mileage options to be 29, 41, 50 and 62. Routes/maps/cue sheets will be sent out via email and available in the event information on the website a few days before the event. The routes are paved roads with SAG [Supply And Gear] stops [for snacks, drinks, and bathroom] every 10-15 miles. The course will be marked. Enjoy miles of low to moderate traffic roads with only occasional stop signs. There is only one stop light on the 50 and 62 mile courses! Mechanical support will be available.”
To add to the fun and the camaraderie (and built up some endurance!) we hope to have a few rides together beforehand. We’ll try to plan them around the schedules of those who are interested.
I’d like to ride, but I don’t have a bike!
We can’t guarantee it, but we might be able to help you find a loaner to use for the prep rides and the day of the LUTS ride. Also, if you’re willing to invest in a bike yourself but don’t want to pay full price, you might see if there’s a used bike that fits you at the Lawrence Re-Cyclery, 229 Elm St, Lawrence, KS.
