At First Baptist, we offer four Intergenerational Adult Sunday School classes and one Young Adult class. Read the descriptions below and visit the class that best suits your learning, or try them all! Everyone is welcome.
All classes meet at 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings. The Sojourners Class and the Lost & Found/DNA Class also offer a Zoom link for participants to join online. If you’d like to participate with one of the classes on Zoom, go HERE and click the class’s button to sign up to get the link, or contact the church office and they can give you the link for the class of your choosing.
Young Adult Sunday School (library)
A class for ages approximately 18-25 that focuses on the Bible’s structure and brief summaries of each book in the Bible, along with a dedicated time for sharing prayer requests. Later on, the class will move on to studying specific books in the Bible chosen by the class. This class is taught by Kylee Johnston, meets in the library, and begins at 9:45am (a little later than other Sunday School classes).
3D Class: Dive, Discover, Deliver (Room 149)
This class dives into Scripture, discovers a variety of ways to connect with what they read, and then discusses how to deliver what they learn to others through their lives, words, and changed understandings. Previous studies have included looking at Prayer & the Psalms, Ecclesiastes, and Philippians. This class is led by retired pastor Rev. Dr. Bob Johnston.
Serendipity (Room 145A)
The Serendipity Class is for adults of any age who want to understand God’s plan of redemption for the world through a verse-by-verse study of the Bible. Come experience with us the power of speaking every word of scripture and be prepared for unexpected revelations as you interact with different voices, and perspectives! This class is led by Danny Trent with others assisting.
Sojourners (Room 151, in person and on Zoom)
This class learns by tackling difficult subjects with a focus on current events such as social justice, stewardship of the Earth, and being in relationship with others. They join scripture with readings from news articles, poems, music and art to develop their souls in Christ. This group is co-facilitated by Nancy & Tim Bonner, with teaching shared among the group.
Lost & Found/DNA (Room 154, in person and on Zoom)
This group explores various aspects of their faith through the study of different books and topics and through the sharing of our own faith journeys. They value good discussion and good coffee. Past authors they have read are Rachel Held Evans, Diana Butler Bass, and Henri Nouwen. Participants may attend in person or online. This group is led by Bryan Miller and John Pauls.
