COVID-19 Update: Family Promise is now sheltering guest families in temporary housing rather than in churches on a rotating basis. When it’s their turn to host, supporting congregations supply money or grocery cards for guest families so they can buy food, as well as “no-touch” hospitality in the form of frozen casseroles, goodies, and cards conveying blessings and support to the families.
FBC is a host congregation for Family Promise of Lawrence on a quarterly rotation. We provide housing in our building during our hosting week for guest families, and cook and serve dinner and breakfast for them.
Family Promise is a central ministry at FBC. Not only is our congregation and building involved in hosting, Pastor Matt also serves on the Family Promise of Lawrence board of directors, and Wendy Wheeler, one of FBC’s Family Promise coordinators, is also the Congregational Care Coordinator for Family Promise of Lawrence itself.
Contact the FBC office if you’re interested in being trained as a Family Promise host.
