How does nomination work?
The Spiritual Leadership Team (SLT) invites the church to prayerfully consider names of those who might fit the role of Martus, and is now requesting nominations via the form below. There is no formal application process other than this short form, for as someone on the 2022 SLT said, “Your past actions are your application.”
Then, with staff serving as advisors, the SLT will choose those to receive this commissioning and blessing. Any current SLT members who are considered will recuse themselves from the conversation. Next, we will approach these individuals to confirm that they want to be named in this way, and then, at a future date, we will lay hands on them and bless them into this role.
In keeping with the tradition of Acts 6, we will publicly name them on the church website, along with a description of the Martus role. As well, the chosen people will be presented with a “symbol of the office,” such as a sash or stole.
Each year following, as congregation members see individuals witnessing to the power of Christ in this way, they will make recommendations to the SLT in order to bless and ordain additional individuals representing the Martus life. The timeline for these commissioning/blessings will not be determined by the calendar, but by the leading of the Holy Spirit.
