Weekend of Missions

Join us for a weekend of learning about and doing missions together! Three events are happening on the weekend of May 23, 24, and 25 for each of three of FBC’s main missions partnerships—organizations that we actively work to support.

Click on the names of the organizations below to learn more about their work.

Harvesters Mobile Food Pantry: Saturday, May 23, FBC circle drive and parking lot

We pack up and give away food that arrives from the Harvesters Food Distribution to help make sure our neighbors have the food they need!

We start setting up at about 11:40 a.m., packing/serving at 12:30, and end around 2:30, or whenever the food is gone and everything is cleaned up!

Celebrating AMOS Health & Hope: Sunday, May 24, during both worship services, Sunday school, and lunch

We welcome American Baptist International Missions missionary Christy Lafferty, who works with AMOS: A Ministry of Sharing Health and Hope, caring for medical needs in urban and rural Nicaragua.

On Sunday, May 24, Christy will:

  • lead in worship during the 8:38 a.m. service
  • give a presentation during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday school hour in the Judson Room
  • preach in the 11:00 a.m. worshp service
  • join us for lunch at 12:00 p.m. in the Roger Williams Room (gym) for a casual Q&A.

Christy has been serving God and her brothers and sisters in Nicaragua since 2012 as a part of AMOS Health and Hope. AMOS uses an empowering approach, following Christ’s example of listening to and healing the most vulnerable. They engage communities as full partners by training local leaders as community health volunteers. Their programs provide preventive and curative health services primarily to rural communities facing significant barriers to healthcare. Christy helps facilitate short-term mission opportunities and engages churches as partners in long-term ministry. She also completed a Masters in Theological Studies (MTS) in Latino/a Ministries through Palmer Theological Seminary and now serves as a student liaison for the program. Christy lives in Managua, Nicaragua, with her husband Abel and their son AJ.

Family Promise Lawrence 5K Home Run: Monday, May 25 (Memorial Day)

There’s still time to sign up for a laid-back 5K to walk/run on a fun downtown route! We hope you’ll join FBC’s team, Heart & Soles! Here’s how to sign up:

Visit https://buff.ly/3HnAOiG and Choose In-Person or Virtual, then at the bottom of the registration page that you’ll complete, select Yes to join a team registration then Continue and look for our Heart & Soles team. ($5 discount on registration shows up once you select our team!)

They also still need volunteers for the race! You can even sign up to do your activity virtually (walk, or run, or ride, or skateboard, or round trips from the couch to the fridge that equal 5K) and then also volunteer! Here’s the link for volunteer signups: https://runsignup.com/Race/Volunteer/KS/Lawrence/5K2022
